Submitting Your RS7 Mid-Funding Period? It’s Easier Than You Think

Without CTA (blog).zip 2

Switching to a new Student Management System (SMS) during a funding period can feel like extra work—especially when the RS7 return is due. The good news? With Juniorlogs, the process is straightforward. Even if you’ve joined us mid-way through the funding cycle, you can submit your RS7 confidently and on time.

Why Two Parts Are Needed

The Ministry of Education (MOE) requires a complete picture of the entire funding period.

If you began using Juniorlogs mid-funding period, your RS7 information lives in two places:

  1. Before Juniorlogs– The data from start of Funding period up to your Juniorlogs start date sits in your previous SMS.
  2. After Juniorlogs– The data from your Juniorlogs start date to end of Funding period is already in Juniorlogs.

To meet MOE requirements, you simply submit each portion separately.

Your Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Submit the Juniorlogs Portion Electronically

  • Dates covered:From the day you started with Juniorlogs through to end of Funding period.
  • How to submit:
  1. Log in to Juniorlogs and run the RS7 Pre-requisite Checkerto ensure your data is clean and accurate.
  2. When you’re ready, head into the Submit RS7 tab and action the submission.
  3. If you used Discretionary Hours, email the Discretionary Hours report from Juniorlogs to the MOE after you’ve submitted the RS7.

Step 2: Email the Earlier Data

  • Dates covered:From start of Funding period up to your Juniorlogs start date.
  • How to submit:
  1. Export the correct RS7 report from whichever SMS you were using before Juniorlogs.
  2. Email it to the MOE at Funding@education.govt.nz
    • What to include:
  • Claimed child hours for each day
  • The category under which each set of hours was claimed
  • Qualified and unqualified staff hours

That’s all the MOE needs to complete your full funding picture.
